Spanish Clep Test

The Spanish clep test contains 120 questions that need to be answered in a 90 minute time frame.

With a score of 50 or higher you will earn 6 credit hours and with a score of 63 or higher you will earn 12 credit hours. Clep tests are given on a range of 20 to 80, so think of all the time and money you will save if you were able to score above 63.

The cost to take the clep test is $77 plus a sitting fee that will be administered by the testing center.

I can tell you from personal experience about the Spanish clep test, often I’m asked how we easy is the test, if you are from familiar and semi-fluent with Spanish then this will be one of the easiest clep tests that you can take. I was able to personally take this test in easily obtain all 12 credit hours. I picked up spanish by living oversees for 2 years dispite failing spanish in high school.

For those who have taken a year or 2 of Spanish in high school, I’m not sure that I would recommend this test for you unless you have additional Spanish experience outside of a few years of high school or unless you did very well in the high school classes.

There are 2 aspects of this test that you need to be aware of. One, is the oral section. This allows you to simply listen to read short story or brief conversation and answer the questions about what happened in the context of the conversation. For those who understand conversational Spanish this is extremely easy as the questions are basic in the conversation is very slow and delivered with good pronunciation.

The 2nd part of the test is going to be reading, writing and grammar. This area of the test is more difficult for some who are just learning Spanish. those who are learning Spanish as a 2nd language having an easy time understanding the meaning of conversations but have a harder time with grammatical sentence structuring and punctuation.

If your family uses Spanish in the home as a 2nd or even primary language than this test is a no-brainer taken right away.

Here’s a breakdown of how the Spanish club test will go. 60% will be based on reading comprehension, 25% will be based on listening to dialogues narratives and the remaining 15% will be listening to rejoiners.

You will need to make sure that you have listening comprehensions skills, comprehension of short oral exchanges, comprehension of reading passages, comprehension of reading sentences and then filling in the blanks, as well as discreet sentence reading.

The great thing about this test, as well as all other clep tests, is that they are pass or fail only. This means that it does not matter how well you do as long as you pass with either a 50 or a 63 or better you will get full credit hours and a percentage will not show on your transcript. In other words, how well you do on the test percentage wise will never be reflected on your official transcript, it will simply show that credit hours have been applied towards your degree saving you a tremendous amount of time and money.
