Credit By Exam
There are many subjects that you can obtain full semester credit simply by passing the exam for the respective course. By passing these exams, you can earn up to 1/3 of your undergraduate degree credit. I was personally able to test out of an entire years worth of classes by taking these exams. Here are a quick overview of the possible exams you should consider and why.
There are over 150 available subjects to earn credits by exam. Each exam is similar to a final exam for the particular class, as if you had taken the course, if you are able to pass the exam then you are granted full credit as if you had paid full tuition and spend the time going through the entire semester.
By taking these exams you will:
Saves you money: An average college course can cost you well over $200 per credit hour, however, taking these exams will typically cost you only a fraction of what the full class would have cost you. Each exam as a fee associated with it but they typically don’t charge much more than $70.
Saves you time: An average class that gives you 3 to 6 credit hours will typically take an entire semester, in other words, 3 or 4 months depending on how your school semesters are broken up. By studying and taking credits by exam, you can earn an entire semesters worth of credit hours in a single week.
I typically found that I was able to study on a subject I knew little about and within a weeks time, was able to pass the practice tests and feel ready for my final test. I was able to pass every credit by exam test I took, you will be able to do so as well.
Helps you skip ahead: Lets be honest, most of the general classes you take your freshman year are fairly worthless and serve very little purpose in your profession once you graduate. In fact, my personal opinion is they are simply required so the school can earn more revenue. If the school had to look at usefulness of applicability they would be forced to change some of them.
Offers you flexibility: You can either take a full semester load of classes and then, in addition, test out of additional classes by taking credit by exam or if you are only going to school part time because you work full time, you can test out of classes while you are going to school part time.
This was my personal experience, as I was running my own business while I was attending classes, in order to graduate sooner, I tested out as many classes as I could.
The best of all, you don’t have to be enrolled in a college to take these classes. If you are not sure what school you will be admitted or will be attending, you can still take these classes and transfer the credits to the school you attend. Over 3000 colleges accept CLEP, DANTES and ECE exams.
