College Algebra Clep
The Clep test for college algebra has a 90 minutes limit and required a score of 50 in order to pass. Typically the cost is $77 and depending on where you take the test, there will be a sitting fee that is charged by the testing center. Keep in mind, US military are able to take this test for free with college tuition assistance.
Overall, if you have a basic understand of college algebra this test would score as a 6 on a scale of 1-10 of difficulty. If you have a good understanding of math, you should be able to test out of this subject and obtain full credit for the course.
This test and the knowledge needed to pass the test would be the same information that would be covered in the semester, it is the equivalent of a 200 college level course. You will need to know and understand, algebraic problems, logarithmic functions, linear and quadratic equations, as well as inequalities.
Personally, this is not a test that I took when I tested out of a years worth of college. Math is not my strength and trying to refresh or teach myself a new subject that I dont grasp easy was not something that I wanted to try.
If you have a naturally ability to understand or learn math, then you should be able to pass this test without problem. I have 3 friends that each passed with ease and said the test was very basic and was an easy clep test for them.
If you are trying to earn math credits then I would recommend that you start with the college mathematics clep test. Not only is this an easier test, but it will earn you 6 full credit hours. Keep in mind, these credit hours will NOT count towards your math required credit hours but they will count towards your electives. Earning 6 credit hours towards your electives will save you a lot of time and money.
If you do well on this test, then chances are, you will do well on the college algebra clep test. The key is to make sure you use the study guide, read through the material and use the practice test to see how you would hypothetically score. There are 3 practice exams in the study guide.
The college algebra clep test consists of 50% of the questions based on solving the given and routine problems and the other 50% is solving non-routine problems such as multi-step equations.
