Clep Test

If you are not familiar with what the clep test is it’s one of the best ways to shorten your college experience and save a tremendous amount of money on college tuition.

Clep stands for College-Level Examination Program and is an innovative solution to the problem many students face today, nainly, often students have previous knowledge or experience in certain subjects and previously the only way for the student to show their ability was to pay full tuition and take the entire semester just like everyone else. Now the clep test allows students to show their previous knowledge and experience by testing out of that particular class, the way students show their ability to test out is by taking one simple test that cost $77 typically. If the student passes the test they are awarded full credit as if they had paid full tuition and spent an entire semester attending class submitting assignments and taking exams.

Clep offers 34 different subject areas where students can earn anywhere from 3 credit hours all the way up to 12 credit hours. Consider the savings by obtaining 6 credit hours and even 12 credit hours for less than $100, not to mention the time you will save by taking a 90 minute test and earning enough credit hours to cover the entire semester of class.

The clip test is accepted in over 3000 institutions across the United States and rest of the world, there are over 1300 testing centers but most of the time you will need to go to a third-party testing center, nearly every college and university has their own testing center where you can take your clep test within their own facility.

One of the keys in preparing to take the clep test is that you work with a school counselor. I learned this lesson the hard way after studying and taking one test, I found out that I didn’t need that particular credit to fulfill my degree plan. Luckily, my counselor was able to apply those credit hours to my elective classes so that the test was not wasted. However, it’s easier to work with the counselor from the beginning so he or she can steer you in the right direction and help you determine which tests are best for you to focus on.

Another great aspect of clep testing is that testing is pass or fail only. You typically need a 50 or above to pass, the clep scoring model ranges from 20 to 80. If you pass, it does not matter your grade percentage on the test. You can pass with a 51, which would be the equivalent of a low percentage score, however you get full credit hours for the class in your transcript will not reflect the percentage score on your GPA. You simply burn the credit hours.
