Clep Difficulty List
This difficulty listed was compiled with the intent of trying to be natural and unbiased. However, the very nature of compiling a list like this is going to be biased because each individual person has their own strengths and weaknesses regarding subject matters taught at the University.
For example, I have my own business and did all through out my undergraduate as well as my masters degree, subject regarding management, marketing and other business related courses were a breeze for me. I hardly had to read through the book and was able to pass the CLEP Exam.
On the flip side, I hate math, anything to do with it. It is undoubtedly my weakest subject. So I didn’t even bother trying to take a CLEP Exam for anything to do with math.
Keep in mind; DSST’s are usually harder successfully pass when compared to CLEP exams. Again, its all based on the subject you are testing out of and your own personal knowledge and experience.
Here is the best thing about taking CLEP Exams, you either pass or fail. This means that if you need a score of 50 to pass, and you get a 51, you essentially would have a terrible grade (51 out of 100) but here’s the great part, because you passed you get full credit for the course and no grade is posted to your transcript. You simply get the credit hours applied to your transcript even thought you nearly failed from a percentage standpoint.
I was able to test out of the maximum amount of credit allowed, basically an entire years worth of college and some of the subject I barely passed (for example, Analyzing an Interpreting American Literature) but no one will ever know, since the grade never shows on my transcript. Only the credited hours show. And if you are wondering if they are frowned upon when going to a Masters degree, there are not, I was accepted to Harvard Master of Financing program and later transferred my credits to Texas A & M MBA program. Neither school had anyway problems with it.
So please use this list and in conjunction with your own strengths and weaknesses, just know thought, that some of the CLEP Exam are extremely easy so whatever you do, take action and start passing these tests. They will save you so much time and money!
